Doretta Groenendyk
Doretta's paintings come to life at the kitchen table (next to a pot of tea and an even larger pot of cookies). She works alongside her three children, Izra, Reilly and Jasper, on a small spot of land in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.
Years earlier, Doretta had graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (near the doughnut shop) and proceeded to teach, travel and tree plant.
Now settled next to a vegetable garden, sandbox and meadow; Doretta delights in the colours, lines and stories around her.
The ideas float in, pictures dance , and the colours sparkle. There is a sense of story, whimsy and play in the images she creates. The colours are warm, bright and luminous.
Doretta is a recipient of Nova Scotia Arts Council "Arts-Infusion" and "Presentation" grants. She continues to paint, illustrate, write, teach art and eat cookies...
She recently illustrated the children's books "Fiddles and Spoons" and "Bounce, Beans and Burn written by Shannon Murray.
